I got bored, so I figured I would configure some compact luxury wagons that are currently on sale and see how they compare. I tried to configure all of these with similar equipment, and relevant "sport packages" for proper Jalopness.

Audi Allroad Premium Plus (MSRP as configured 45,300) While I personally do not consider this a wagon because the ride height is too damn high. Audi calls it a wagon and the rest of the car world calls it a wagon. It also still looks damn good.

Not bad for 220hp/ 258 tq, rear-biased AWD and a widened track similar to the RS4. I just wish I could get over that wheel gap.

BMW 328 Touring Sport Line (MSRP as configured 49,775)

I want to love you BMW, you look good you got the moves but I can't get 3 pedals. Would it really be too much to ask for a special order?

Volvo V60 T6 R-design (MSRP as configured 47,325)

The cargo area is a little disappointing, but for about the same price as the others you can have 325hp and 354 tq. While I wouldn't call that a wagon bargain, the Volvo seems to offer the most for the money.

Of course I am too broke to buy any of these. :(

You could get the Audi lowered. You want to call it an SUV? I know, I know... I miss the Avants too. Out of all of these, much as I loooooove the Audi, I think the Volvo feels best to me. Of course, I haven't driven any of them...

But I don't want to spend all that money...then spend another crap-load of money to lower it.

As for the AllRoad's wheel gap, you know it's SUPPOSED to be that way right? The car is pretty much meant to be an enthusiast's alternative to crossovers while still providing good clearance.

Why not just a regular Avant if that's what you're looking for?

Regular Avant is no longer for sale. It was replaced by the Allroad.

Volvo all the way! Though I think it looked better before the facelift.

Go used. Then you can afford them and not eat the depreciation for someone else to save money off of your loss.

Like I said, I was just comparing the new ones for the hell of it. Trust me, I have my Autotrader alerts set for used Avants. Problem is ones with the right options and low miles are way overpriced in the market. I have a 3-4 year plan to pick up a CPO V60 R

True...but I just wanted to play around with the new car configurators.

That's why they priced it cheaper than the other two, so you could go choose your own ride height.

The new Volvo is growing on me like a Swedish meatball.

After looking at all of these cars in person, the Volvo is the worst value.

I was not impressed by the interior ergonomics, and the rear hatch cargo space is pathetic.

The only one of these I would get is a 328d wagon.

But...but...325hp! I hear ya. I do like the overall package of the BMW.

honestly these days, I'm more interested in having crazy good range and mileage in a spacious wagon. that diesel is plenty peppy.

And, you can't even get the volvo with a stick. If you could, I may have a different opinion.

As it is I would never buy that Volvo over a MKVII Golf R. Seriously, the R has slightly more cargo space, a stick, Haldex V, AND will be $10k cheaper.
